Embanked Fish Ponds
Embanked fish pond is a form of agricultural production with strong local features in Pearl River Delta. It operates by digging ponds in low land to feed freshwater fishes, building embankment with pond sludge, and planting fruit trees, mulberry trees and sugar canes on the embankment. These productive ways are named respectively as mulberry embankment, fruit embankment and sugar embankment of fish ponds. The mulberry embankment of fish ponds, which combines mulberry planting, silkworm feeding and fishery together to form an ecological circle of interdependence and mutual feeding between mulberry, silkworm, fish and pond sludge, is the most typical productive mode of the local tradition. This attraction area of Embanked Fish Ponds is just a preservation and representation of this fishing and farming tradition. And at present, Flower Embankment, Fruit Embankment, and Mulberry Embankment are included here.
